THE MINOR IN ITALIAN

18-19 credits

If you are enrolled in another college or department, or even if you are a student in the Department of Languages and Linguistics, consider adding Italian to your curriculum. It makes you more marketable. The thorough knowledge of foreign languages is a gateway to the world.

Prerequisite for non-native speakers: ITA 1120 and 1121 Beginning Italian I and II

A maximum of two courses taken overseas may be substituted for some of the courses listed below:

 

Non-native speakers:

12 credits

ITA 2203 Intermediate Italian Language and Culture I (4)

 

ITA 2204 Intermediate Italian Language and Culture II (4)

 

ITA 3400 Advanced Italian Language and Culture I (4)

and two of the following, one of which must be in Italian:

6/7 credits

ITA 3401 Advanced Italian Language and Culture II (4)

 

ITA 4930 Special Topics: Readings in Italian Culture (3)

 

ITT 2500 Italian Culture and Society (3)

 

ITW 3100 Italian Lit. Middle Ages & Renaissance (3)

 

ITW 3101 Italian Lit. Baroque-Present (3)

 

ITT 3520 Italian Cinema: From Text to Screen (3)

 

ITT 4440 Dante: The 'Commedia' in Translation (3)

 

ITA 4930 Special Topics (3)

Native Speakers:

Any six courses from the above list (18-19 credits) beyond the ITA 3400-level and including ITA 3401.

Please note:

* At least 66% of total Minor credits must be earned at FAU;

* All students seeking a minor in the Department of Languages and Linguistics must be registered with the department before beginning their last 8 credits of study. Consult the department office for the advising schedule at (561) 297-3860;

*Minors are posted on the student's transcript at the time of graduation. In order for the registrar's office to post the minor, students MUST come to the Department of Languages and Linguistics (AH 118) with their "Application for Degree" form.
